Bubba was handed his letter today.
It’s not good.
He was offered one of five different positions: the closest is located over 2.5 hours away, the furthest is located 6 hours away, none are within any reasonable distance to either our house, our family, or a Starbucks.
Bubba is to rate each of the five positions, from most to least preferred, by Monday. At that time, his choice, as well as the choices of the other four who are also in danger of losing their jobs, will be assigned according to seniority. Unfortunately, Bubba is the lowest man on this totem pole so we don’t have much hope that he will be selected for either of our top two positions.
It’s not a good situation either way. We are faced with making a huge decision in a very limited amount of time. In the next five days — only two of which are business days — Bubba has to find out the details of the positions being offered, he has to chose which of those he is interested in, and he has to figure out the particulars of how to relocate himself and the family to said job. Simultaneously, I’ve got to talk with my employer and see if he would even consider working with me at an even longer distance; if not, well then we’ve got even more details to iron out.
The next few days, I imagine, are going to be quite frantic as we muddle over the exponentially endless possibilities we are faced with. In light of the economic depression that is infecting so many across the country, I guess it’s good that we have any options to consider, I just hope we make the correct decision for our current and future situation.
